The Timmerman Traverse was not only a physical feat but a testament to the power of community and collective purpose. With grit and determination, the team reached the summit of Africa's highest peak.[reference:2]
The team trained their bodies for the physical and mental rigors of high altitude, embarking on a 'bucket-list' adventure to reach over $1 million in funding.[reference:3]
The event showcased the strength of advocacy through action. Each participant brought their unique story and drive to the challenge, amplifying awareness of SCD's impact.[reference:4]
Funds raised support rapid diagnostic programs (HemotypeSC screening, Gazelle confirmatory testing) and basic treatment options like hydroxyurea.[reference:5]

Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited disorder of the red blood cell, affecting over 6 million people around the world. SCD is a chronic, painful, debilitating illness that disproportionally affects individuals from malaria endemic parts of the world โ with its highest rate of prevalence in sub-Saharan Africa.[reference:7]
While recent advancements in research and treatment in the US and Europe have been promising, SCD continues to be a 'forgotten' illness for individuals living in regions where resources are limited.[reference:8]
Your donation to the Timmerman Traverse for Sickle Forward helped us reach our summit goal of $1M in support of rapid diagnosis and basic treatment of SCD in Africa![reference:9]
Direct matching of funds raised doubled the impact of this event and allowed for funds to be directed to sickle cell disease in the US as well.[reference:10]
